One of my hobbies is diving. Not scuba diving, but springboard diving and cliff diving. I taught myself how to dive at the age of 12 and was soon doing double front flips off the spring board at local pools.
Most people laughed at me when a scrawny little kid climbed up on the diving board all serious about what dive I would do. Then they would often have looks of amazement after I went big for a double or a 1 1/2.
In Montana we didn't have any dive teams and there was only one small springboard in the whole city. I didn't have a lot of ways to train or practice so everything I learned I had to teach myself or watch other people.
Finally in college I got the opportunity to take a springboard diving class and that's when I learned how to dive a lot better and I learned to do a lot more tricks. I also began diving on a 3m diving board and a 5m platform. I learned how to do double backflips and 2 1/2 fronts and a few other tricks.
I began taking my diving skills to other outlets as well like cliffs, house boats, and bridges. Anything that was high enough to jump off of and dive off of I was there trying new tricks. Its a lot of fun to go to the river and be able to throw tricks off cliffs and bridges, instead of just jumping straight off. There is a higher risk involved, but I try and check to make sure the water is deep enough and the jump is safe to do.
Diving is a good outdoor activity like walking or biking. It gets kids out there and active instead of driving around or sitting and playing video games which use electricity. You are experiencing nature and the environment and it can lead you to some fun places.
ReplyDeleteNo lie, i would love to have that same courage and attitude to be that outgoing. But i can see where you obtain a healthier lifestyle and a better outlook on life from activities like this. To me, it makes one a more cultured individual when they are that involved with something like that.
